Turning on the social media apps daily could be a regular part of the routine. Just consider all the people that have the smartphones and the high speed internet that connects them to the information. If you are not producing the content that is going on social media, it could be a missed opportunity.

There are plenty of social media apps and people might have their favorites. Some people might choose to watch the videos on youtube and others might like checking in on facebook to see the latest updates from their friends and family.

The social media content might not be the same type of information that you get when you turn on the tv. The info that pops on screen when you are flipping through the cable tv channels might be much more polished. The user generated social media content might feel more real.

The content on social media might be the first crack at the information. It is not uncommon to see some of the info from the social media apps eventually end up on the big cable channels. Information is moving fast and there are lots of people that can just start recording and posting the content.
