Technology and Shopping
Technology is shifting quickly. Are you keeping up with the changes. Are you up to speed with scanning qr codes? You might notice them more often these days. Technology is a game changer and you might start noticing it more often.
In the past, you might walk into a food spot and see lots of people taking orders. Now, you walk into the local burger spot and they have a screen where you can enter your order. Online ordering and the new technology changes the game.
The tech might take away some of the frustration. Have you ever placed an order and the order was not correct when you picked up your food? Adding your own order to the food ordering system might help reduce some of the errors.
There is a different level of interaction when you are dealing with a computer system versus dealing with a person. This could be good or bad. You might have seen some of the social media videos showing the customer interactions that could have went wrong. On the flip side, there is no wiggle room when you are dealing with tech. You have the options available and the system is the system.
It might be strange adjusting to the new interactions. Just like the first time a person encounters a self-checkout register, there could be a little bit of hesitation. What seems out of the ordinary the first time could turn into the preferred option. Consider the shoppers that are ready to checkout and noticing the open checkouts. The checkout registers with real people might have long lines, but the self-checkout registers might not. Are the shoppers going to save time by jumping into the new technology registers or wait in line to be helped with a real person. Some people might not like the idea of trying to scan all of their items and bag them up.
The tech brings in new options and it might take a while to get up to speed. Automation, software and hardware can all play a part in the shifts that take place. The options don’t stop. Some checkout registers might accept cash while others only accept debit / credit cards. While some people might still enjoy heading into the stores, others might take a different point of view. Why even spend your time walking around the store? Why not use some of the shopping and delivery services and just get your stuff dropped off? Some shoppers might give the online shopping option a try and find a new favorite way to buy.
